Professional and Academic Biography
Gilberto Botti, born in Sassuolo (Modena) on September 27, 1953, has had a diversified professional and academic career, with a strong focus on architectural interventions in historic centers and the restoration and renovation of historically significant buildings. He taught architectural design at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich for over two decades. In addition, he contributed to restoration and renovation projects. More recently, he has intensified his painting practice.
1966-1972: Adolfo Venturi State Art Institute, Modena.
1972-1978: Studied at the Faculties of Architecture of the Universities of Florence and Venice. Master's thesis at the Institute of Theory and History of Architecture at IUAV on the topic: The concept of urban planning in Italy between the two world wars (graduated with honors, 110/110).
1983-1991: Professional and publishing activity in Modena.Â
Organized conferences and international study and exchange initiatives focused on architectural interventions in historic centers.
Exhibitions and publications on the architectural and urban history of the city of Modena.
Projects for the reorganization of urban spaces and the restoration of the Municipal Palace of Modena in collaboration with Pier Luigi Cervellati.
Studies and regulations on the preservation and intervention in Modena's architectural and urban heritage of historical interest, particularly during the early urban expansion between the 19th and 20th centuries
1993: Relocation to Munich.
Since 1995: Professor of Architectural Design at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Applied Sciences in Munich.
1997-2000: Member of the Gestaltungsbeirat (Design Advisory Board) of Salzburg.
1995-2006: Restoration and renovation of the former State Bank and the Neuhaus-Preysing Palace in Munich for the headquarters of HypoVereinsbank (in collaboration with Guido Canali).
2010-2019: Professional studio with offices in Munich and Parma, in association with Gianfranco Zanafredi, and collaborations with Silke Langenberg.
Since 2019: Conclusion of teaching activities and return to intensified painting practice.

2020: Awarded the "Stadtbildpflege" Prize by the city of Munich.
